The story is about twins Santo and Banto, played by Hema Malini, in a double role. Santo is the alter ego of Banto. Santo is a good religious girl who comes to Mumbai in search of her sister Banto from Punjab, after her mother expires, as she believes that Banto is a tutor in a man named Gulbahar Singh's, (Ajit Khan) house. She hires the taxi of Ronnie, alias Dev Anand, to search for her sister's house, but finds only goons at the various addresses of Gulbahar Singh. As Ronnie's mother, played by Durga Khote, has left for a holy pilgrimage, he takes Santo to his house for the time being, taking pity on a lone girl, promising to look for her sister. Santo adapts to Ronnie's lifestyle, cooks and cleans for him, and brings the piety of God Krishna, to his house. Ronnie and Santo fall in love.

In the backdrop is introduced Banto, who has become a criminal Madam and prostitute, called Ramkali, running a crime den from her house, unknowingly for no other than Gulbahar Singh, who is top notch criminal smuggler and Don.

Meanwhile, Ronnie gives up his old berating taxi owner and starts working for a God Hanuman devotee, Seth Ram Bharose, played by Premnath, who is in love with the nautch girl Ramkali. Ram Bharose sends jasmine flowers to her through his workers and taxi drivers to woo her and thus sends Ronnie to her one day. Ronnie is shocked to see that the nautch girl is a look-alike of Santo and believes her to be Banto, the lost sister of Santo.

Banto, capitalizing on her admirer Ram Bharose's attachment to her, asks him to send his taxi driver Ronnie for her unlawful errands, to which Ronnie takes a strong objection and also informs the police, when he discovers a cache of diamonds with Bharat Kapoor, posing as a doctor and sent by Ramkali. Gulbahar Singh arrives in town after this and wants to take revenge on the taxi driver. He has never seen the nautch girl Ramkali, who works for him. Meanwhile, Ramkali confesses her love to Ronnie, which he rejects, but she pleads with him telling him that she was in the trade to take revenge from Gulbahar Singh, in whose house she had worked as a tutor, to his two children, and who had raped her. The story follows many twists and turns, ultimately ending with the climax of Ronnie busting the criminal gang of Gulbahar Singh, and Banto taking her revenge, but being killed in the process. Ramkali dies as Banto, after being united to her sister Santo. Ronnie and Santo culminate their love with the blessings of his mother.

Jaan-E-Mann (transl.Beloved) is a 2006 Indian Hindi-language musicalromance film directed by Shirish Kunder and is produced by Sajid Nadiawala. The film stars Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta in lead roles. This was Shirish Kunder's first film as a director. He also edited and wrote the dialogues and screenplay.

The first trailer was released in late August and its filming cost nearly Rs. 40 crore.[1] The film released on 20 October 2006 on the festive weekend of Diwali/Eid. The DVD for the film released on 15 December 2006.[2]

Plot[edit]

The film begins when Suhaan receives a notice saying his ex-wife Piya, who has settled in New York, wants a divorce settlement of 5 million rupees, because of his failure to make his alimony payments due to his poor financial condition. Suhaan appeals to his uncle Bonney Kapoor (Anupam Kher), a midget lawyer, for help. While they are trying to figure out a solution, Agastya Rao (Akshay Kumar) lands at their doorstep searching for Piya. He reveals to them that he fell in love with Piya during his college days but could not express his love to her because she was in love with someone else, unaware that the person he lost her to was Suhaan. Piya had ignored Agastya then, a nerd, a nobody, and even broke his heart by blowing him off to be with Suhaan at a concert that Agastya had taken her to. A heartbroken Agastya left the college as a result and eventually wound up in Houston working for NASA.

Suhaan Kapoor (Salman Khan) and Piya Goyal (Preity Zinta) fall in love in college and elope. However, he has to keep his marriage a secret in order to further his career as a movie star and when his career hits a low, he returns home to find out that she has left him. She does not answer his calls or emails, and he soon receives a divorce notice in the mail.

Suhaan and Boney Kapoor hatch a plan to get Agastya and Piya together so that Suhaan needs not to pay alimony to Piya and Agastya gets the girl of his dreams. Suhaan accompanies Agastya to New York City to help Agastya win Piya over. They rent an apartment opposite Piya's and watch her every move, literally, using telescopes, binoculars, and surveillance techniques. Using a headset, Suhaan feeds Agastya lines to woo Piya with and eventually succeeds in getting Piya and Agastya together.

One night, Suhaan finds out Piya has a baby girl, Suhaan 's daughter. He realizes that she left him since she did not want her and the baby to ruin Suhaan 's film career. Suhaan realizes his mistake and tries to make amends and start a new life with Piya and his daughter, Suhaani. Unfortunately, before he can act, Piya gets engaged to Agastya.

It later emerges that Piya's brother, Vishal(Nawab Shah), had been hiding letters that Suhaan wrote to her and was responsible for initiating the divorce process. Agastya realizes that Piya is still in love with Suhaan and not him; so he reveals the truth and tells her to be with Suhaan. Piya flies back to India where Suhaan is trying to find work as a small-time actor. They express their mutual love, reuniting their broken family.

A few years later, Agastya is on a NASA space shuttle and initiates a video conference with Suhaan and Piya (on Suhaan's Birthday). He introduces them to his new girlfriend who looks strikingly similar to Piya.
